Why is Creativity more important now than ever before?

“You see things; you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say ‘Why not?”

– George Bernard Shaw

In the 2020 World Economic Forum Schools of the Future Report, Innovation and Creativity skills were identified as one of the characteristics of high-quality learning in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.  LinkedIn ranked ‘Creativity’ as the soft skill that companies needed most in 2019.  So why is creativity more important now, than ever before?

The answer is clear.  Being a creative person- someone who is open to new ideas, curious, and able to embrace complexity and ambiguity- helps us to navigate change.  And we are living in unprecedented times of rapid change. Between the exponential growth of technology combined with a global pandemic, we need to stay open to potential opportunities and ideas, to invent solutions to problems we have never experienced before, and to collaborate in ways we had could never have imagined, to design a better world for the future our children.  Most importantly, we need to equip our children with these skills so that they continue to navigate this path of change.
